Chiropractic Care

The Urban Athlete’s Chiropractors use a variety of tools including Active Release Techniques, Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Therapy, Medical Acupuncture and exercise therapy to reduce pain and restore normal ranges of motion.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapists are primary health care professionals. They combine their in-depth knowledge of the body and how it works with specialized hands-on clinical skills to assess, diagnose, and treat both the cause and symptoms of injury.

Pre and Postnatal Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy

Pregnancy can have a significant impact of the muscles and organs of the pelvis. Physiotherapy can be used to correct dysfunction of the pelvic floor that can result from pregnancy. When the muscles of the pelvic floor do not function properly all sorts of painful conditions can arise. This type of treatment can help if you are suffering from stress incontinence, prolapse or rectus diastasis.

Massage Therapy

The Registered Massage Therapists at the Urban Athlete provide a variety of different techniques to reduce pain, improve joint function, improve circulation, reduce muscle tension and positively impact your overall wellbeing.

Athletic Therapy

Certified Athletic Therapists treat a wide range of patients, using different manual therapies, exercise prescription and bracing/taping. The goal is to reduce pain and help client’s return to their daily activities as soon as possible.

Corrective Exercise Prescription

Many of our therapists are experienced in developing and teaching specific exercise programs to reduce pain and dysfunction. Clients are empowered to address the root cause of their pain, to strengthen weak muscles and reduce the muscle imbalances that result from our daily activities.

Medical Acupuncture

Many of our practitioners use Acupuncture as a tool to treat painful musculoskeletal conditions. Fine needles are inserted into specific areas of the body to release trigger points, stimulate healing and relieve pain though the release of endorphins.

Laser Therapy

Laser is a gentle form of highly concentrated light therapy that helps reduce pain and inflammation as well as activate the production of cellular energy to help stimulate accelerated healing. It’s ideal for people who need a gentle but effective therapy to stimulate healing.

Fascial Stretch Therapy

Fascia is a sheet of fibrous tissue that covers muscles and organs like a spider’s web. When fascia gets injured it becomes stiff and losses it’s elastic nature. Fascia that doesn’t function properly can result in pain, restricted ranges of motion and muscle imbalances. Fascial Stretch Therapy is a method of restoring normal function to fascia. A certified therapist performs assisted stretching techniques while the patient relaxes in a comfortable position. It is suitable for anyone experiencing pain, recovering from an injury and/or looking to restore normal ranges of motion and for anyone looking to improve performance.

Cupping

Cupping has been used as a part of Tui Na (Chinese Massage) to treat injuries. Suction "cups" and heat are used to gently draw skin, fascia and surface muscles into the cup. This increases blood flow, relieves pain, draws out toxins and loosens tight muscles. Cupping can be a powerful tool in reducing muscle tension and accelerating healing.

Custom Orthotics

Orthotics are custom made inserts that fit comfortably into your shoe. They are prescribed to correct issues that arise from fallen arches, differences in leg length, foot pain and many other conditions associated with the shifting of the bones and muscles in the foot.

Pilates is a system of exercise that focuses on developing core strength, improving posture and gaining flexibility. Our instructors are all certified and have years of experience working one-on-one with clients to ensure proper muscle recruitment and alignment.
