Once upon a time, Ryan Hindmarsh was a basketball player for four seasons with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, a three-time academic All Canadian, and a six-year member of the Saskatchewan Provincial basketball team. Although he looks back somewhat wistfully on those hoop dreams fulfilled, he certainly made the most of his off-court time. Ryan earned his BSPE (University of Saskatchewan) and is a Certified Fitness Consultant, Medical Exercise Specialist, and experienced Golf Fitness Trainer.
He was the strength and conditioning consultant for the Saskatchewan Sports Science Program, a high performance strength coach for NHL and junior hockey players, and a fitness consultant for the Gears Racing professional cycling team. In his time away from the Urban Athlete, you might find him playing or watching basketball, playing or watching golf, and playing or watching hockey. In fact, he’ll watch just about any sport on TV!
He also enjoys mountain biking - preferably downhill, and likes to wind down with some wine, food, cheese, music and friends – the operative word here being wine. In the future, Ryan hopes to walk 5 km in under 50 minutes, stay within sight distance of Dr. Bill on a mountain bike for more than an hour, continue to play until the walker stops him, and distinguish himself amongst the Urban Athlete staff as the only one who never attempts a long distance running event!
